Fire-safe structural design
Frisomat partner in research group “Fire-safe structural design”.
Knowledge from models concerning the behavior of a burning structure or construction is only little present at study agencies and various small and medium enterprises. On top, this aspect is barely touched in the engineering education in Flanders. Standards and regulations concerning fires and fire safety often varies per region with a lack of uniformity. A solid calculation method is based on reliable methods and a global analysis of the structure, material behavior and marginal values. The judgment of the fire resistance and fire safety mostly ends up at the Commission for deviation of the Federal ministry of internal affairs. Clear and uniform guidelines for this commission are desirable. A uniform procedure results in a swift completion of the different files and guarantees the intended safety.
The knowledge and information gathered in this project is mainly intended for the industry and education. The research is done by the Academy for Science and Art, department Industrial Science De Naeyer in Mechelen, Belgium in collaboration with the University of Leuven, the WTCB and the University of Liège. The project counts on a number of partners, such as the scientific establishment, architects, engineers, engineering agencies, producers of materials or software, construction companies, federations, universities or academies and professional associations. As innovative construction company specialized in cold rolled steel Frisomat commits itself to bring this project to a successful end.
The project started end of 2008 and will take about 2 years to finish
